  12. Hi, I'm having a hell of time trying to connect to a particular internet 
  13. provider, and was hoping someone out there might be able to help.
  14. Whenever I dial this particular provider, the modems go through their 
  15. handshaking and then as soon as the connection is established the carrier 
  16. is dropped.  I get a couple of lines of garbage characters on the screen 
  17. (Sometimes the first few chars or line is OK, but the rest is trash).  
  18. This happens every time I try to log on and the carrier is always dropped 
  19. within half a second or less from when the connection is established.

  21. Well here is some more info:
  22. Tried 3 different modem software packages (1 for Dos, 1 for Windows, and 
  23. 1 for OS/2).  The same always happened.
  24. There are 3 phone lines going to the provider, one of which is on a 
  25. completely different set of modems (also a differnet brand).  Again it 
  26. made no differnce which I tried.
  27. I have never had this problem before and connected to lots of places.
  28. Internet provider assures me that I'm the only one to experience any 
  29. difficulties with their modems.
  30. Flow control, data size, parity etc have all been checked and theres 
  31. nothing wrong there.
  32. Using a ZyXEL U-1496E+ external modem with a 16550 UART on a 486-66 machine.

  34. Any help or suggestions would be _really_ appreciated!
